Discuss: The Intended Meaning of a Quotation
Friday February 4, 2005
Today, a reader wrote in asking:
I recently read Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah and she uses a lot of chinese proverbs in her memoir. One quote she used is "falling leaves always return to their roots" she also chose this for her title. I do not understand what this quote means though do you have any idea?
Naturally, it is tough to decipher the exact intended meaning, but it probably means that when in trouble (or misfortune or sorrow), one ends up with her / his real people (as in family, parents, friends, teachers) etc.
