Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What is the difference between quotations and quotes?

A. Quotation is a noun and Quote is a verb. So, you quote a quotation. However, in common parlance, a quote is used to mean quotation. In fact, a study of Internet search engine data shows that quote is more popular than quotation, even when it is used incorrectly. For instance, more people search for love quotes than love quotations. In deference to popular usage, on this site, I use these two terms interchangeably.

Q. Who is this site suited for?

A. The quotations site is intelligently classified and structured to suit your need. If you are a student seeking specific quotations for your homework or presentations, this site is for you. If you enjoy quotations and are inspired by them, this site is for you. If you are a quotations enthusiast and love to collect and research quotations, this site is for you. If you like to use quotations as a succinct source of news, this site is for you.

Q. There are pages on this site that I really enjoyed reading. Is there a way to send these to my friends?

A. Yes, absolutely! At the bottom of every page is a link titled Email this page! Use it to share the page with your friends and acquaintances. I strongly recommend this.

Q. I would like to recommend a set of quotations for your site. How should I tell you about them?

A. There are many ways to contact me. The best way to recommend inclusion of quotations is to fill out the Suggest a Quotation form. You can also email me at the address listed above. I am very happy to receive reader mail and I almost always respond.

Q. I have not been able to find what I am looking for. What should I do?

A. In addition to providing you helpful articles, this site compiles some of the best quotations. However, if you don't find a suitable quotation, you can use the search box on the quotations site, at the top of the page.

Q. Can I be sure that the quotations listed on your site are authentic?

A. I work hard to present quotations from reliable and reputed sources. Moreover, I cross verify the quotations. However, errors may creep in. Hence, please double check the authenticity of a quotation before you use it. Also, I would highly appreciate it if you could notify me of an error.

Q. I want you to link to a quotations site. How can I get you to do that?

A. I am very selective about linking to external sites. Moreover, I periodically delete existing links if I do not find the sites up to the mark. If you have a good quotations site to mention, do not let this discourage you. Please suggest the site. If I link to it, I will let you know.

Q. Why do I occasionally find spelling errors on this site?

A. Before concluding that something is a spelling mistake, do consider the difference between American and British English. In the case of authors who are being quoted from what they wrote (as opposed to what they spoke), I have attempted to retain the original spelling. Such spelling variations will commonly occur in the quotations of Mark Twain, Gandhi and others who followed British English. Naturally, there could be actual errors in spelling too. If you do find any, please notify me.
