Benazir Bhutto's Statements on Death Threats:
- Despite threats of death, I will not acquiesce to tyranny, but rather lead the fight against it.
- We are prepared to risk our lives. Were prepared to risk our liberty. But were not prepared to surrender this great nation to militants. The attack was on what I represent. The attack was on democracy and very unity and integrity of Pakistan.
- Just before the attacks happened, I was very happy. The procession was one enormous party, the atmosphere was joyful, people were dancing in the street; it was magnificent. For me, that was the real Pakistan.
- We have to modify our campaign to some extent because of the suicide bombings. We will continue to meet the public. We will not be deterred.
- Don't worry; I'm going to be safe, and God willing I'm going to be safe.
- Pakistan is at crossroads. We citizens are faced with a decisive choice this January 8th (2008) election day. We can turn our backs on the years of dictatorship, fundamentalism, and economic decline.
- Democracy needs support and the best support for democracy comes from other democracies. Democratic nations should come together in an association designed to help each other and promote what is a universal value -- democracy.
- All our problems, all our disputes, all our disagreements can be resolved quickly to mutual satisfaction if we address the question.
- I think it's very unfortunate for Pakistan that yet another government, a democratically-elected government elected by the people has been dismissed. I think it says something about the fact that our democratic institutions haven't worked.
- Democracy is necessary to peace and to undermining the forces of terrorism.
- You can imprison a man, but not an idea. You can exile a man, but not an idea. You can kill a man, but not an idea.
- It pains me that they are using the judicial authorities here to score certain political points back home in Pakistan.
- The government I led gave ordinary people peace, security, dignity, and opportunity to progress.
- Given the right to a free ballot, the people would support my return.
- Now, when people are dying, you don't really look at who's offering the help. You take it. The first issue should be to help the people.
- The military wants a system that protects its policies and privileges.
- The political parties have unanimously rejected the one-man constitutional changes.
