For me, New Year's Eve is the time to catch up with old friends. I make sure to call or text my long lost friends, and find out how the year had treated them. Occasionally, I go out for a coffee date with my gal pals, and we share a few laughs and tips on how to lose weight.
My kids however, have a different take on New Year's Eve celebrations. They like to party, call over their friends, and enjoy delicious food and drink at home. It is great to watch youngsters make solemn resolutions for the New Year. Their enthusiasm and energy is infectious, and soon I am filled with joy and hope.
An hour before midnight, we usually head out to the local mall or to an amusement park, where we watch the fireworks show. We hold each other's hands during the countdown to the New Year, fervently hoping that our dreams come true in the coming year. In the deafening din of jubilant cries, we hug and wish each other a very Happy New Year. We also say a prayer thanking God for all His blessings, and the gift of life.
It's that time of the year, when you can shed your inhibitions, forget your worries, forgive your enemies, and find love. Life happens. Tomorrow is another day in the calendar. Except that the year will have changed. You can choose to think of it as yet another boring, mundane day of your life. Or you can choose to look at the new day as the dawn of a new awakening. The choice is yours.
So raise a toast to yet another excuse to party. As Oprah Winfrey said, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right." Yes, you are going to get it right this time. You have 365 new days to try to get it right.
Rejoice as the New Year unfolds with a basketful of hopes, dreams, and aspirations. When you celebrate New Year with gusto, you feel positive energy flowing in your veins. You begin with renewed vitality and optimism; the much needed ingredients for a successful start. Share these quotes with friends and family. We need a lot of positive energy to make this world a better place.
Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.
Edith Lovejoy Pierce
We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.
Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come,
Whispering 'it will be happier'...
Never tell your resolution beforehand, or it's twice as onerous a duty.
Every New Year is the direct descendant, isn’t it, of a long line of proven criminals?
I would say Happy New Year but it's not happy; it's exactly the same as last year, except colder.
Happiness is too many things these days for anyone to wish ill on anyone lightly. So let's just wish each other a bileless New Year and leave it at that.
Aleister Crowley, Moonchild
May the New Year bring you courage to break your resolutions early! My own plan is to swear off every kind of virtue, so that I triumph even when I fall!
Stir the eggnog, lift the toddy, Happy New Year, everybody.
Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.
Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.
It wouldn't be New Year's if I didn't have regrets.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.
G. K. Chesterton
The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.
Henry Ward Beecher
Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith.
